History
On October 1, 1924, the Leeuwarder Hockey Club (LHC) was founded. The club was very successful and became northern champion for men 5 times during its existence.
In the summer of 1972, LHC merged with the Roman Catholic fellow townsmen of Hurry Up. This club, founded on 9 April 1937, was not very successful and hardly ever played at the highest northern level for men. The new name after the merger was MHC Leeuwarden.
A year later, in the summer of 1973, Leeuwarden Mixed Hockey Club Rap. joined the merger. Rap was founded on 8 July 1926. The men always played at the highest northern level. After the relegation from the northern first class in 1952, Rap only managed to reach the first class in 1966. However, Rap was relegated to the second class a year later and never returned.
The mergers were not entirely without problems, as is evident from the narrow majorities in favour of the merger and the new name that was chosen.
In 2014 the fields were renewed, the Leeuwarden hockey club now has two semi-water fields and one sand-filled field. Since 2019 an inflatable hall, the dome, is set up in the winter season. The indoor hockey season can be played on two fields in this.
